Incidents happen when nobody is watching, and without recorded evidence disputes, theft and access questions cannot be resolved.

A well-designed surveillance system gives you a reliable view of your premises and a record you can go back to. What it should achieve is agreed before any equipment is selected.

What a CCTV system usually includes

Most systems are assembled from the same families of equipment. The mix, quantity and grade are decided during design, not in advance.

• Cameras

  IP, analog HD or PTZ, chosen per viewing distance, mounting position and lighting.

• Recording

  An NVR or DVR matched to the camera type, with storage sized to the retention you need.

• Network & PoE

  Switching, cabling and links so cameras, recorder and remote access stay reliable.

• Power & containment

  Power supplies, backup provision, conduit and trunking for the installation.

• Mounting & accessories

  Brackets, junction boxes, connectors and cabling that complete the install.

Camera counts, storage sizing and equipment grades are confirmed during design — we do not quote specifications before understanding the site.

System design considerations

• Coverage priorities

  Decide which areas matter most — entrances, tills, yards, corridors, perimeters — before counting cameras.

• Identification vs observation

  Recognising a face or plate needs a tighter view than watching general movement. Both usually appear in the same system.

• Lighting conditions

  Night-time, backlit entrances and unlit yards affect camera selection and positioning.

• Indoor and outdoor positions

  Exterior mounting points, weather exposure and reachable heights change both hardware and cable routes.

• Recording and retention

  How far back you need to review determines recorder and storage sizing.

• Network and remote viewing

  Remote access depends on a workable internet connection and correct configuration at the recorder.

• Power and continuity

  Backup power keeps recording through outages; we confirm what is practical for the site.

• Cable routes and expansion

  Planned routes and spare capacity make later additions straightforward rather than disruptive.

• Integration

  Surveillance often sits alongside access control, alarms or electric fencing — worth planning together.
