Manual gates slow down entry and exit, leave drivers exposed while opening them, and are often left open for convenience.

Gate automation is specified around the gate itself — its type, mass, condition and how often it is used — before any operator is selected.

What a gate automation system usually includes

Most installations are built from the same families of equipment. The exact selection depends on the gate and the entrance.

• Sliding gate motors

  Operators for sliding gates, selected against gate mass, length and usage.

• Swing gate motors

  Operators for hinged gate leaves at residential and estate entrances.

• Traffic barriers

  Boom barriers for controlled vehicle lanes at estates, offices and industrial premises, selected against the width of the opening.

• Roadway spikes

  Directional roadway spikes at barrier-controlled entrances and exits, installed flush with or above the road surface.

• Loop detectors

  Inductive loop detectors buried in the roadway for free-exit activation and closing/safety loops on barriers and gates.

• Traffic lights

  Red/green driver signals at a controlled lane, driven from the barrier or spike controller.

• Boom poles & barrier accessories

  Rectangular aluminium boom poles and related barrier accessories, ordered to match the barrier model.

• Gate remotes & receivers

  Remote transmitters for drivers, paired to the operator's receiver.

• Gate safety beams

  Infrared beams across the gate opening, wired to the operator's safety input to stop or reverse the gate.

• Gate racks & accessories

  Steel rack sections and mounting brackets that transfer the sliding operator's pinion drive to the gate leaf.

• Access & intercom at the gate

  Where visitors must be identified or admitted, gate stations and readers are specified alongside the operator.

Racks, brackets and cabling are specified per installation during the site survey. Availability is confirmed on quotation.

System design considerations

• Gate condition

  An operator can only work as well as the gate it drives. Track, rollers, hinges and alignment are checked first.

• Gate type and mass

  Sliding and swing gates need different operators, and the operator must suit the mass and length of the leaf.

• Usage and duty

  A shared apartment or commercial entrance sees far more cycles per day than a single household gate.

• Power and continuity

  Mains supply at the gate position and behaviour during outages are agreed before installation.
